First thing, it is COLOMBIA not Columbia. ???
When I said I was going to Colombia for my birthday trip this year, l had a few ??♂️??♂️??♂️?????? from loved ones. You see all most people know about Colombia is Pablo Escobar and that Netflix show Narcos, so I understood their concern. Ladies that love emeralds, guess which country makes about 80% of the purest emeralds worldwide? As a coffee head I can tell you they have some amazing coffee. Foreigners are now visiting the “beachy” tourist side of Cartagena but that’s about it. I’ve always had a love of art, culture and curiosity on how other people live/eat. So I set off first to Bogotá which is their capital city and spent two days exploring. Next I flew to Medellin **pronounced Mede(j)ín/(sh)ín **** and lawd was the landscape and vibe different! Last but not least I made it into Cartagena and my heart was overjoyed. It totally exceeded my expectations.
Colombia is rapidly changing for the better, as tourism is growing across the nation. There is more than Pablo Escobar, drugs, kidnapping and war. Yes they still have corruption but many other places do too. FYI, yeah they absolutely dislike hearing the name Pablo Escobar. It’s a sure way to alienate yourself from the locals.
Absofreakinglutely, I shall visit Colombia again and again.
It will be disrespectful to the locals if I bundled my Colombian trip in one post as each town has its own unique offerings. Please check out each city’s blog from the links below.
