Frankfurt was a 4 day 3 night trip for me with 3 goals. See Herbie Hancock live, visit Porsche/Mercedes museums and drink authentic Gluehwein. Here are my top 20 things about Frankfurt.
1. Uber is quick but a bit pricey. Airport to city center, a fifteen minute ride was about 22€.
2. Trains are super efficient, affordable and you can get a day pass from the airport for about 8€. Pay attention to train numbers as I got lost but quickly figured it out.
3. A lot of people speak English. I never had to use my google translator app.
4. Polizei (police) are everywhere and it almost felt intimidating.
5. Frankfurt is the first European city I can drive in. They were orderly and no crazy driving seen.
6. If you love museums there are about 50 of them covering architecture to history, culture and much more.
7. If you love cars, a day trip to Stuttgart is a must. Check out Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and BMW museums. It’s a 90 minute drive or 2.5 hr train ride.
8. Stop by a family owned coffee shop. The brews are potent and good. Of course if you are a Starbucks loyalist they are present too.
9. Most taxicabs are the Mercedes-Benz brand.
10. Frankfurt was heavily multicultural. I met Ghanaians, Ethiopians, Koreans, Indians and quite a few folks from Turkey and Iran.
11. I ate at a Thai restaurant one rainy night and it was great. The Halal chicken joint near the main train station was cheap, cheerful and yummy.
12. Turkish seafood place was simply amazing check them out.
13. It’s a major financial and marketing hub with the busiest airport in Germany.
14. Debit and credit cards are widely accepted but I took cash out of the ATM at the mall to be safe.
15. Learn how to say thank you in German. They had big smiles each time I did this.
16. It is not uncommon to see Beck’s beer sipped publicly and early in the day too.
17. Try their Gluehwein, it’s a heated wine drink. ??????
18. Pretzels and baked goods are everywhere and yes they are “super yummy” (my nephew’s words..) ??
19. A visit to Old Town Frankfurt is always a good idea. It rained while I was there so no good photos. ???
20. I did the hop on, hop off city tour it was about 20€. If you have some time, take a few day trips or the boat ride for a beautiful skyline view.
I would happily go back to Frankfurt but this time get a manual shift rental and hit the autobahn. ??
